The glacier also has great intermediate slopes allowing confidence to be gained on great snow conditions. </p> <p>For beginners and weaker intermediates the gentle blue runs and nursery slopes are situated at the top of the mountain, on and around the glacier - which means that you can experience the great snow and great views of the high mountain from day one. Getting back down to the resort is probably best achieved by gondola until you have more confidence.</p> <p>A 20 minute hike from the top is La Meije, a legendary high mountain off piste playground for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders. You can ski down to the old village of La Grave, which has resisted development and retained its hardcore status.
