At 1650m, Les Deux Alpes is a lively, bustling resort surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.
It's high altitude glacial slopes means it has an excellent snow record, and means that the resort can open earlier and stay open longer.
Out of the main tourist winter season it attracts many ski and snowboard camps
Les Deux Alpes is a purpose built resort and so provides convenience and ease of access to the slopes. Most of the shops, bars and restaurants are along the two main streets.
The tradiional village of Venosc is just below Les Deux Alpes and is linked by a gondola. It has cobbled lanes, craft shops and some nice restaurants, and is a nice contrast with the the main resort.
There is extensive skiing on the long, snowsure runs from one of the largest glaciers in the Alps. The glacier also has great intermediate slopes allowing confidence to be gained on great snow conditions.
For beginners and weaker intermediates the gentle blue runs and nursery slopes are situated at the top of the mountain, on and around the glacier - which means that you can experience the great snow and great views of the high mountain from day one. Getting back down to the resort is probably best achieved by gondola until you have more confidence.
A 20 minute hike from the top is La Meije, a legendary high mountain off piste playground for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders. You can ski down to the old village of La Grave, which has resisted development and retained its hardcore status. If exploring this terrain a guide is always recommended.
Les Deux Alpes has also developed its snow park scene extensively over recent years.
Les Deux Alpes offers a wide choice of après-ski activities for all age groups making it a popular choice of destination.
Summer skiing is available on the glacier. There are also ample opportunities to mountain bike, hike, parapente and enjoy the scenery.
The old alpine towns of Grenoble and Briançon are also within easy driving distance and well worth a visit.
