The village of Blatten sits at 1327m rising to 2098m and is wonderfully traditional. There are also winter walking trails, snowshoe trails and cross country skiing available.
The area is spectacularly beautiful and with its proximity to the Aletsch Glacier offers the possibility of skiing other areas during a ski holiday. The ice and the spring meltwater have created a fantastic landscape of rocks - the Massa Gorge, which is safe to visit thanks to its reservoir dam.
Blatten is a popular canyoning destination thanks to the Aletsch Glacier. The entrance to the gorges is situated at the foot of the 120-foot Gebidem Dam, which was build by the Electra Massa Corporation in the 1960s in order to utilize the natural energy generated by the water. Equipped with a Neoprene suit, helmet and climbing belt one climbs over rocks which were left behind by the Aletsch Glacier in the last Ice Age about 11,000 years ago. Highlights: the 8-meter jump into a beautiful waterbasin and the 30-meter descent on a rope into the "Cathedral" .
There is also the opportunity to climb, hang glide, try via ferrata, walking, hiking and mountain biking.
